Ethel Yliniemi
Ethel was born on June 12, 1901. died on June 29, 1931. she was a young woman when she left home with Helmi Kippola to go to the Iron range of Northern Minnesota to find employment. she worked in the old Merchants Hotel in Virginia, MN. Later, she moved to Minneapolis to work in a textile factory. After several years, she came home to allow her younger sister Esther a chance to leave home and earn some income. After Ethel returned home to assist her mother and family, she suggested that her brothers contribute towards the payment of a washing machine. They didn't comply and she again left home to seek gainful employment.
On June 29, 1931 Elina Ojala was visiting John and Katie Yliniemi, sitting in the shade of a tree in the yard when she heard spiritual singing in the distance (no one else heard it), then she heard it a second time. Soon, Sam Yliniemi came into the yard to tell them that Ethel and Arthur Larson(who was courting Ethel), had drowned that day while swimming in Toad Lake at Strom's shore.
Ethel was a very caring and friendly person.
